Today is a new day; a fresh start. A day to make good on the promises I’ve been telling myself and others. To start loving more and judging less. To listen more than I talk. To wait patiently more than I jump to conclusions. To lose 30 minutes of sleep (that didn’t make me feel less tired anyway) so that I can read and enjoy the morning birds. To make sure my wife knows that she’s super hot. To look people in the eyes. To eat healthier. To write a third chapter and the next song. To be honest. To do my chores before the deadline and without reminder. To learn how to play the guitar better (and all those other instruments I’ve picked up along the way.) To discover new ways to serve my community and become part of it’s life.
I’m excited for today and the possibilities it holds, but I’m also very aware that I will not actually accomplish most of those things. Actually, I will probably do quite the opposite of most of them.
But today I’m not afraid to admit my goals and acknowledge the risk of failure. Because what I don’t succeed at today, I’m gonna try again tomorrow.
I’m fairly confident that success can’t be defined by a certain measurement across the board for you and for me. I think success is forward movement. One step. Growth is the goal, and any growth is growth.
